As we approach the 2026 Medicare selling season, it’s important that agents stay current on new policy changes impacting Medicare Part D—and those updates are front and center in this year’s AHIP Medicare + Fraud, Waste, and Abuse certification.
AHIP's 2026 training officially launches on June 23, with a refreshed curriculum that reflects important changes stemming from the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA). These updates are designed to help you better understand—and explain—the latest Medicare drug pricing reforms to your clients.
This year’s AHIP training includes critical content on how the IRA is reshaping Medicare Part D, particularly when it comes to negotiated drug pricing and plan reimbursements. Here are the highlights:
For the first time, Medicare will apply negotiated prices to certain high-cost, single-source drugs without generic or biosimilar competition.
Ten drugs have been selected by CMS for this first round of price negotiations, impacting plan year 2026.
During the initial coverage phase, CMS will pay Part D plans a 10% subsidy for drugs under price negotiation.
In the catastrophic phase, CMS will cover 40% reinsurance for those same drugs.
📝 Note: These changes do not impact the cost-sharing amounts for beneficiaries—but they do affect how plans are reimbursed and how negotiated prices are factored in.
As of 2025, the Part D coverage gap has been eliminated.
Out-of-pocket costs are capped, offering greater financial protection for beneficiaries.
These foundational changes are essential knowledge for any agent helping clients compare drug coverage options or explaining why certain prescriptions may cost less in 2026.
The 2025 AHIP training will no longer be available after Thursday, June 19 at 11:59 PM ET. If you’re currently enrolled in the 2025 version and haven’t completed it yet—now is the time.
The new 2026 AHIP Medicare Certification opens June 23, 2025.
